DVD The New Technology

As retail chains stop stocking video recorders it perhaps
now the time to look at the alternative. This lies in the
far more flexible DVD which is capable of storing far more
data of a better quality than video tape could ever manage.
It's possible for even most technically fearful of us to
achieve wonderful results by investing in a DVD writer and
a lead to link it to our video recorder or camcorder. Where
do you start and what is achievable?
1~The first thing you must do is to transfer all the video
tapes that you want to save to DVD. This will save
everything for a minimum of thirty years, but many
manufacturers are claiming that DVDs will last for up to
one hundred years. You must make sure that you use the
right kind of DVD; ones that can be bought are:
a.~A rewritable DVD (DVD RW). This will let you re-record
over and over again.
b.~'Once only' DVD this will keep your precious memories
safe as once it has been recorded no-one can ever record
anything over the top.
c.~A double layer DVD has substantially more space and can
store up to eight hours of pictures.
2~It's possible to cut the frames that you don't like.
Perhaps someone is pulling a funny face or perhaps the
camera has been left running by mistake. Such editing is
relatively simple and once you are used to the procedure
you will soon get to feel at home with the idea of editing
and become quite a professional!
3~It's not just the pictures you can edit but you can also
add your own music which can be faded in and out and you
can also produce a voice over to remind yourself of some of
the funny things that might have happened.
4~You can go as far as producing opening and closing
credits so that it looks like a professional film and if
you feel that some witty comments written along the bottom
of the screen than, again, this is not only possible but
also very simple to achieve.
5~If you've just returned from holiday you can combine
your camcorder footage along with your photos to create a
slideshow. If you have a birthday coming up or you'd like
to give a special present to a loved one, what better than
putting your own pictures together on a DVD and giving it
as a unique and very special present.
6~Once your DVD is produced there are the finishing
touches to make it look as if it's been produced by an
expert. There are relatively cheap printers that will allow
you to print anything you like on the DVD to make it
totally unique. If you don't want to invest in such a
printer, you can buy labels that you can print on and then
stick them on to the DVD (make sure you stick on the right
side!) The DVD can then by put in a case and, again, you
can buy cards to fit in the cases to make the product look
professional.
In short, someone working on their lap top computer in
front of the television can produce a DVD that looks as
professional as one bought from retailer and produced on a
commercial basis. This really hasn't pleased the video
industry as there are many professional people making their
livings at home rather than with the big companies that
used to employ so many.
