Is a Laptop For You?
by Christian Barzelle

There are now millions of people who own computers for
their homes and many who use them at work, too. The
majority of consumers still cling to the desktop model
while a significant number have made the transition to
laptops. Ease of use and the ability to carry laptops just
about anywhere are probably the two biggest reasons for the
conversions. If you are still using a desktop, here are
some reasons you might consider going with a laptop
instead.

A desktop weighs far more than a laptop. Cleaning around
a laptop is much simpler because of their weight and ease
of relocation. You needn't be overly concerned about
damaging a laptop as you move it back and forth across the
desk while cleaning. You can even remove it from the desk
completely in one swift motion and clean the entire area.
As all laptops have lids that double as monitors, it is
convenient just to close it up to prevent dust and dirt
from collecting on the keyboard or screen.

The laptop is readily portable between work and home for
those wishing to coordinate functions between both
locations. Rather than copying programs or files to disk
to transport between the two locations, all you need to do
is turn the unit off and carry it with you. USB ports are
used for the very same purpose, but the laptop allows you
to use the same keyboard and programs at all times rather
than adapting to more than one system.

It is possible to use a laptop for several hours without
needing to plug it in thanks to its battery. This portable
nature gives you the ability to record information, take
notes, or any number of functions at meetings and
presentations so you can get more value out of those
events. If it is absolutely essential, you can finish up
that report or presentation at the beach or park before
calling it a day simply by taking your laptop with you.

It's clear to see that laptop computers are here to stay.
As technology becomes even more advanced and yet more
compressed, it is likely that tinier units will compete for
popularity, like the pocket computer. The bottom line is
that the old clunkers are on their way out, and perhaps
with good reason. It's time to make way for new innovations
that can help us move faster and link information in ways
that make our lives more comfortable and meaningful. If you
do not yet use a laptop, give some thought to getting one
for home or office.
